My name is Rachel and I love Thai food. I started Rachel Cooks Thai as a place where I could experiment with Thai recipes, learning new ones and perfecting old ones. It has since become a Thai food resource online, a place where I can document all of our favorite Thai recipes, as well as provide how-to guides, top 10 lists, and other information related to Thai cuisine.
My obsession with Thai food started after I met my true love in 2002. He was born and raised in Thailand and was the one to introduce me to the bold, unique flavors that he grew up eating. Early on in our relationship, we spent countless hours at Thai restaurants getting acquainted with each other over plates of larb, sticky rice, and sai oua. Later on, we moved to the kitchen, where we enjoyed each other's company while making elaborate Thai meals.
We got married in 2014, and of course, had a fantastic Thai buffet and dessert table at our wedding. We are now busy raising our family, although we continue to enjoy cooking, eating, and experimenting with the wonderful world of Thai cuisine!
The recipes on this site are the ones we cook from daily. They are featured by category and by main ingredient on the Recipe page. All of our other adventures with Thai food, how to guides, test kitchen experiments, top 10 lists, and more are found on the Resources page. We also have a Pantry page to help you get started in the kitchen.
I hope you give the recipes featured on this site a try and enjoy them as much as we do! To keep up to date with the latest recipes and posts, you can subscribe to our free newsletter. FAQs
My Thai husband was the one to introduce me to Thai food, and my inspiration for learning how to cook it. I have learned so much from him. His parents are also exceptional home cooks, and I learn something new every time I watch them cook. In addition to learning from my Thai family, I have gained many insights from Thai chefs both in America as well as in Thailand. I truly enjoy studying and learning about Thai food, and sharing my knowledge here with you!
Fortunately finding Thai ingredients is not the chore that it once was. Nowadays, you can find a good many Thai pantry staples online. That said, finding fresh ingredients can still be a challenge, depending on where you live. Each recipe on this site includes a description of the ingredients needed, including where to find them. My Thai pantry page also includes complete descriptions of many Thai ingredients and where to find them.
Cooking Thai food for the first time can be overwhelming, I know. My goal with this site is to make it as accessible as possible. Each recipe comes with detailed descriptions of what the final dish should taste like, information about the ingredients used, and step by step instructions to set you up for success. Some of the best recipes for beginning Thai cooks are Thai Fried Rice, Thai Fried Chicken, Pad See Ew, Mango Sticky Rice, and Thai Iced Tea. With these recipes alone, you'll be able to host an awesome Thai dinner party!
