Thai Salad Recipes

Salads in Thailand are quite different from western salads.  Thai salads are often composed of meat and fresh herbs in a light, refreshing dressing that includes fish sauce, chilis, and lime juice.

There are four main types of salads in Thailand, which are differentiated by how they're made.  Yum salads like Yum Som-O are made by tossing the dressing with the other ingredients whereas Tam salads like Som Tam are made by pounding the ingredients together with a mortar and pestle.  Larb salads like Larb Gai feature dried chilis and toasted rice powder and  Pla salads like Pla Goong feature meats that were traditionally "cooked" in lime juice.  Regardless of how they're made, you can be sure Thai salads are a bright, fresh addition to your Thai meal.
